Belton is a small city that can be found in Central Texas. It is the county seat of Bell County and a part of the Fort Hood/Killeen/Temple Metro Area. Several notable people lived in Belton at one point during their lives including actor Rudy Youngblood, musician Danny Barnes and bass player Pat Seals.

History of Belton

The city of Belton was founded in 1850 at which time it was named Nolandville. However, the name was changed to Belton just a year later in honor of Texas' governor Peter Bell.

It was designated as the County seat for the newly organized Bell County. Once incorporated in 1852, it was the only town in the County and was the last of civilization seen by the pioneers heading West by horseback or wagon train.

With the construction of a railroad, courthouse and a college in 1881, the small city began to flourish. Nevertheless, Belton saw the most growth during 1942 after the establishment of nearby Fort Hood.
